Unilever, reaches 2 billion consumers every day in 190 countries with its brands, and its products are used by 51 million consumers in Turkey every month. Project, which is being conducted, is about standardization of re-pack materials, and minimization of the unused and waste materials emerged after re-packing operations. High complexity and high uncertainty in the system result in high risk of having waste and unused materials after re-pack operations. Therefore, the aim of the project is designing a materials management system which minimizes the total cost taking the unused packaging materials on hand and value of waste packaging materials into account while satisfying target fill rates. Solution approach for this problem is constructed as following, classification of materials and products separately, determining risk groups for the materials based on the relations among material and product classes, standardizing common usable materials and finding inventory management policies for the classes constructed. As a result of this approach, total cost is minimized taking the value of waste and unused materials into account.
