Founded in 1968 with the coordination between Koç Holding and FCA, TOFAŞ is one of the most important automative producers of Turkey and with the production volume, TOFAŞ is the 6th biggest industrial company of Turkey. TOFAŞ whose brands are FIAT Doblo, Fiorino and Aegea provides the necessary materials and parts for production by the its suppliers in Europe. For the contiunity of the production, the containers in which the parts came should be sent back to suppliers. In addition to that, TOFAŞ makes shipments of parts to other FIAT-related plants in Europe. Currently, these two shipment operations are carried out independently, and shipments of export parts, especially, having low saturation cause a high transportation cost. The aim of this project is the integration and optimization of these two independent operations.

The three-phase mathematical model created in the light of our efforts throughout the year decides which container is sent via which truck, the routes and the shipment times of trucks. The decrease in the total transportation cost can easily be seen when one compares the real shipment figures and the output of our model. In addition, various sensitivity analysis are conducted in order to see the dependency of our model with respect to input data. Finally, an interface is built on Microsoft Excel VBA in order to make the model more user-friendly.
