Şişecam, which was founded by İşbank in 1935, aims to meet the basic glassware needs of Turkey. It operates in 13 countries with 44 facilities. The facility where we conduct our project is Şişecam Polatlı Factory which produces flat glasses. The current system that we concentrate on, consists of the warehouse operations including product placement and retrieval processes. The undesired forklift movements which take place during warehouse operations, high mixed address ratio and old age of the products in the warehouse pointed out to problem symptoms. With the project we conduct, we aim to minimize the workload, the age of the products in the warehouse and develop alternative solution approaches in order to meet varying needs in different warehouse conditions. We progressed by developing alternative solution methods and testing them via simulation models. Then, the results are used to set regression models and best alternatives are chosen by comparing the performance measures.
