Arçelik Inc. which is the third biggest company producing domestic appliance, wants to have high profitable and long-run sustainable systems in its plants. Arçelik Electronics Inc. located in Beylikdüzü/İstanbul produces motherboards and assembles televisions. Many interruptions in typesetting production lines of digital (television) motherboards is established and one of the major reason is breakdowns. Management prefers production to maintenance. Therefore, this causes a significant increase in duration of repair and frequency of breakdown occurrence; as well as a significant increase in amount of defective motherboards due to deviation from calibration of machines. Within this scope, the aim of the project is to minimize the cost of interruptions caused by breakdowns. As a solution approach, maintenance schedule integrated with production plan is constructed by using hierarchical two-iterative method. The former, mathematical model decides on preventive maintenance-production scheduling and the latter, simulation model outputs corrective and preventive maintenance-production scheduling. Application of maintenance-production scheduling, which is a pilot study, in different scenarios and suggestions on further improvements will be discussed.
